The title of The 2010 Crafts Entrepreneur and The Taito Award goes to Noolan Oy
The Finnish Crafts Organization grants the national Taito Award of €6000 every second year. The Taito award is donated by the Tapiola Group. The purpose of the award is to make the public aware of excellent crafts enterprises and to show that devotion to skill gives impetus to success.
The grounds for granting this award include:
- professionalism of the company’s operating mode together with its profitability
- uniqueness of the products
- high quality design combined to good overall quality
- ethical way of working according to the the principles of sustainable development.
The recipient of the Taito award in 2010 is Noolan Oy. The nomination was made by the local Crafts Association in Kokkola. Noolan is a Design studio and manufacturer of clothes and accessories. The Headquarters is in Jakobstad, situated on the west coast of Finland. Marja Rak is the Head designer and founder of Noolan.
The word Noolan means "northern wind" in the local dialect. Design and craftmanship of high quality are the basic ideas of the brand. The materials used are: felt, linen and boiled wool.
The local crafts and design associations provided 14 nominations for this award.
