TAITO DAY

The magazine changed its name from Kotiteollisuus to Taito (Skill) in 1991, since when crafts and arts centres throughout Finland have also celebrated Taito Day on 14 April.
The name is rather a play on words since Taito is a Finnish male name and also Finnish for skill, expertise. In many places, events include various exhibitions, courses and displays of work; the Experts of the Year, etc. are also appointed. The magazine has supported the arrangement of events by providing information, sending posters and other marketing material, giving annual subscriptions as raffle prizes and by publishing Taito Day patterns with instructions.
