The Finnish Crafts Organization Taito has launched mentor activities in order to help retain crafts traditions. They involve recruiting people interested in the crafts culture to study, maintain and reform crafts in their own regions. These activities provide people with the opportunity to participate in and influence the conservation and fostering of the Finnish cultural heritage. In addition, they increase people’s awareness of and participation in their local culture.
The mentor project for crafts traditions is implemented with the help of the Taito Group’s 18 regional associations. These associations have access to networks and information about living, local crafts traditions. The regional crafts associations bring together people interested in crafts mentoring in their own regions and organise courses, events and exhibitions relating to these activities.
