Craft technique of the year 2022 is dyeing with natural dyes
Today, one of the main reasons why craft enthusiasts use natural dyes is the ability to combine a holistic nature experience with their crafting hobby and a desire to reduce the use of chemicals in textiles. By choosing this craft technique for 2022, the Finnish Crafts Organization Taito wants to contribute to the discussion on the responsible production and environmental impact of textiles and materials.
The Finnish Crafts Organisation Taito was named a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage expert organisation
The General Assembly of UNESCO’s Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage was held at UNESCO's headquarters in Paris from 8–11 September 2020. At the meeting, the Finnish Crafts Organisation Taito, Finland's leading provider of crafts consulting and education services, was named the second UNESCO intangible cultural heritage expert organisation in Finland.
A society that values its roots remains strong
Throughout the ages, crafts skills have been transferred from one experienced craftsperson to another. The living heritage of crafts reflects the knowledge and skills needed to make handicrafts from various materials in the environment, whether it is building a house, restoring old furniture or knitting woolly socks.
In 2013, Finland ratified Unesco’s Convention for the Safeguarding of
the Intangible Cultural Heritage. Such heritage includes, for example, crafts skills, oral culture, performance arts, social customs and rituals and festive traditions.
