How can we inspire children and young people to discover traditional crafts and connect with their cultural heritage?

Join the next ECO Coffee webinar to explore how organisations in Slovakia, Finland and Norway engage younger generations in traditional craftsmanship. Cultural heritage is a rich source of knowledge, traditions and practical skills. By giving children and young people opportunities to learn through hands-on experiences, we can share the joy of creating and show why traditional knowledge remains valuable today and for the future.

Meet our three presenters:
Andrea Orelová and Zuzana Magulová – Slovakia
Adviser Andrea Orelová and methodologist Zuzana Magulová from ÚĽUV will introduce the UNESCO-recognised School of Crafts. Established in 1999, the School preserves and develops traditional Slovak crafts by passing on unique skills and knowledge to future generations. Through practical courses, children and young people develop their creativity and skills while discovering the value of traditional craftsmanship.

Minna Hyytiäinen – Finland
Minna Hyytiäinen, CEO of the Finnish Crafts Organization Taito, will introduce Finland’s system of Basic Education in the Arts. This unique form of extracurricular education allows children and young people to study crafts and other art forms through goal-oriented, long-term learning, either as a meaningful hobby or as a foundation for further education in the field.

Hanne Prydz Aspelund – Norway
Hanne Prydz Aspelund, adviser at the Norwegian Folk Art and Craft Association, will present the organisation’s work with children and young people through Ung Husflid (Young Craft). Discover how volunteers in local craft groups pass traditional skills on to future generations while inspiring young people to create, appreciate quality and durable materials, and make more sustainable choices as consumers.

There will be time for questions after the presentations.

Join us for an inspiring exchange of experiences and ideas on engaging children and young people in cultural heritage and keeping traditional crafts alive for future generations!
