Tsekin tasavallasta saapuu Erasmus-vierailuryhmä Suomeen kesäkuun alussa ja tulee jakamaa tietoa paikallisesta perinteisestä villan käsittelystä ja villakulttuurista. Centre for Traditional Technologies – Museum of the Nový Jičín Region edustajien ryhmä vierailee kolmella paikkakunnalla: Tammisaaressa, Turussa ja Leineperissä. Yleisöllä on mahdollisuus osallistua avoimiin luentoihin ja työnäytöksiin. Vierailua koordinoi Suomessa Taitoliitto.

Luento: Sheep Wool in the Western Carpathians: Experimental Reconstruction of Historical Technologies
The lecture (45 min) and the follow-up hands-on workshop (1 h) focus on historical sheep-wool processing in the Western Carpathians and introduce two distinct production traditions: a mountain tradition and a foothill tradition.
The mountain tradition is characterised by work with coarse sheep’s wool and functional blends (e.g., goat hair, pig bristles), as well as a weaving technique on a form carried out without opening a shed (no-shed weaving). The foothill tradition includes blending wool with nettle fibre, the production of woollen broadcloth and no-shed weaving.

he programme builds on CETRAT’s long-term research and experimental reconstructions, enabling participants to follow the technology “from raw material to finished product” and to discuss its functional and cultural contexts not only within the Carpathian environment. These historical experiences are not merely “about the past”: they provide a concrete and substantial inspiration for the contemporary utilisation of wool, which in many regions today is paradoxically perceived as an inconvenient waste product rather than a renewable raw material of high practical value.
The Centre for Traditional Technologies in Příbor (CETRAT) is a branch of the regional Muzeum Novojičínska and, at the same time, a laboratory-oriented workplace that investigates and shares with the public traditional technologies rooted in rural environments.
